Black Joy

Yesterday, the joy of our people was on full display. The main ingredient, Blackness paired with love, family, and rhythm. Married under the warm October sun to create another spontaneous outburst of Black joy. Black joy unencumbered and unapologetic in its display.

Black joy uninhibited by the social structure.

Black joy the intergenerational celebration described by a prince when he was fresh, “…watching old folks dance at the family reunion.”

Black joy melding our tribes, unified in celebration of we.

Black joy represented under the standards baring our colors red & white, pink & green, crimson & cream, blue & white, black & gold, and of course royal purple & old gold.

Black joy coming together under the one banner red, black, and green.

Black joy a gift given to us by the ancient ancestors, surviving all the atrocities heaped upon our people both past and present.

Black joy displayed in sound and step.

Black joy in the heartfelt greetings across the PanHellenic spectrum.

Black joy in the hugs, the smiles, the remembering, and the knowing.

Black joy, Black joy, the celebration will not be televised.
