It should hit home with this one statistic – the leading cause of death for children 1-19 in America is gun violence. I don’t remember writing about mass shootings before and I don’t want to now, but we cannot pretend to ignore the hypocrisy of the bullshit from the “2nd Amendment rights” advocates. The same people who are banning books that tell the truth about this Country’s history, instead of the glorification of whiteness. The same people who don’t want you to say “gay”, the same people who are passing laws against drag show, affirmative action, and a woman’s right to choose. The irony of this is that these laws are passed to “protect our children”. No child has ever died from reading about Rosa Parks or Before the Mayflower by Lerone Bennett. No child has ever died from attending a drag show. We have to remember that this same system made it illegal for Black people to read, now want you to read only what they tell you is acceptable.
Nimarata (Nikki) Haley said what has to be the dumbest thing ever spoke out loud about the most recent shooting in Nashville, “It’s okay if there are metal detectors. There are guests coming in/out, the kids see them at an airport, they see them wherever they go. Why don’t we do that to protect those kids? Hey Nimarata! Please explain how metal detectors would have stopped the shooters in Uvalde and Nashville? Good luck on your presidential run.
Facts: Nearly 100% of all children shot with an assault style weapon are killed. Every time there is a mass shooting the price of assault rifles goes up. I have to stop telling my Drivers Ed class that the number one killer of teens is car accidents…
