You’ve been hoodwinked, bamboozled, run amok! Every time I hear about Evanston Reparations that exactly how I feel, there I said it! Until yesterday, I only vocalized my direct opposition to my close circle but last night as I was watching the trivia show The Chase, one of the questions was “In 2021, the city council of Evanston, Illinois voted to approve an unprecedented program involving what?” With the choices being 1) Online elections 2) Reparations 3) Prison abolition. I wanted to throw my shoe at the TV!

The day before I had a discussion about “Evanston Reparations” and how the media would make this into a talking point for the same people who are against CRT (without being able to tell you what it is) and AP African American History classes in Florida. It will, and is already is being used as the, “see y’all got reparations so what are you still complaining about?” argument. I couldn’t articulate my opposition the way I wanted until I read what Councilwoman Cecily Fleming said when she voted against this program, “a housing plan dressed up as reparations” and “This isn’t change that can be a beacon for the nation…it is a dim, weak light.”
Now you have the former Council woman Robin Rue Simmons touring the country and being dubbed the new Rosa Parks? Wait, didn’t she own a contracting company specializing in construction renovations and isn’t what the $25k grants are for? IJS
