I’ve tried to write this many times, not sure if this is any better than previous iterations or a complete thought but based on current history and a recent discussion the question bubbled to the surface again. In Parable of The Sower by Octavia Butler, Chapter 2 begins with the sentence that I think defines my position, “At least three years ago, my father’s God stopped being my God.” The date in this chapter – Sunday, July 21, 2024 (yesterday exactly). The book was Copywritten in 1993.
Is invoking, “In the name of Black Jesus…” more powerful than the white Jesus that adorned the church I grew up in?
Does not accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior condemn you to hell? And believing in another Deity, be it Allah, Budda, Vishnu, or Horas mean you have no chance of salvation.
Can a mass murderer repent of his sins and accept Christ right before his execution go to Heaven (if he’s sincere)? Absolution seems to only work for one religion.
Is Trump’s God, the one Tim Scott sermonized and praised during the RNC, the God that evidently intervened to save his “lions” life, be the same God that allowed the murder of innocent babies at Sandy Hook and Uvalde? The same type weapons used in all three shootings are legal because one party is against banning them.
I was asked directly; Do you believe in God? Yes. The asker seemed skeptical because of previous conversations so they asked a follow up question; do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. No. The look was priceless, blasphemy! I asked, do you believe that Methuselah lived to be almost 1,000 years old? And while they were stammering, the second question; why is your Jesus white?
At this point my God was winning and I felt like Kendrick 😊
More to come…
