Less than 12%. That is the total number of Black people who voted for Trump in 2020. Black men make up 4% of the total electorate in the country. The immediate reaction to this will be, “You’re on the democrat plantation” or worse, that I voted, and yes, I voted early, for Kamala Harris because I THINK she is Black. Some of you will dare say that my opinions are invalid because my wife is white. I’ve said this a million times, but I’ll say it again, who I’m married to does not diminish, discount or disenfranchise my Blackness! I am unapologetically Black and getting Blacker every day as I unlearned what I was taught and started learning what was left out of the history of my people.
So, this is an open letter to Black men, yes, to all Black men. The ones who are civically engaged and those who may have been radicalized, not into the republican party, but into the MAGA cult of Trump. Let’s start with the same question I asked white people; name a time when America was great for Black people? Not you as an individual, but your people as a whole. If you cannot give me a specific period in American history, then you should stop reading right here and go contemplate your life decisions.
For everybody else let’s talk about history, to my generation understand this; your parents could not vote! When they earned the right, they overwhelmingly voted republican. Barry Goldwater a senator from Arizona developed the Southern Strategy to align with the segregationist against civil rights, FOR BLACK PEOPLE. The racist democrats switched to republican because the right wing of the party declared they were going to be “the white man’s party”. Has it changed in our lifetime?
The next time you talk about the democrat plantation, what the fuck do you think the republicans need your Black ass to do?
The one thing all these brothers have in common, not one has ever hit me with a policy of Trump that benefits them, or for that matter, anybody else they know. What’s more striking, when you look at their posts or comments, they are full of often false snippets and shortened clips of VP Harris and her surrogates manipulated to fit a false narrative or just downright demeaning her character. You never see any posts from them that show a positive representation of Trump.
Finally, let’s again call a thing a thing. These brothers are at best misogynistic and worse they are a replica of Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Django Unchained. If misogyny is your thing, I want you to go back in time and look at the influence of Black women in your life. Then look at a picture of your mama, or in her eyes if she is still with us and tell her I’d rather be led by a racist white man than an educated Black woman. Don’t give me that bullshit about Harris not being Black either! If you are Stephen Warren, what I like to call the “WE sick boss negroes”, there is no hope for you, sorry.
Just like I have a list for white folks, I have one for Black men for Trump. I call it my You Have Been Bamboozled, Let Astray, Run Amok if You Think:
That the criminal justice system got his 34 convictions wrong just like they do with for Black people.
His morals and values align with yours.
The illegal immigrants took your Black job and when he deports them, I’ll get mine back.
You believe your current Black job is in jeopardy.
He gave you a stimulus check during the pandemic.
Project 2025 and Agenda 47 will not have any effect on you or your people.
That women are the weaker sex.
That he won’t turn on you/us as soon as he sees you have no value to him (ask Mark Robinson).
January 6th was a day of love because the police didn’t start shooting and it would have been the same if Black people did the same thing.
Police need qualified immunity and that won’t have any effect on you.
You can’t be racist against Black people if you are Black.
Trump is not a racist.
I guess in a way I’m thankful that only a very small percentage of the total electorate is Black men which means maybe less than 1% of us are voting for Trump but if by some ridiculous chance he wins you MF’s better be the first to learn how to pick fruit and cotton!
